Tropical Fly Fishing Is Different

Fly fishing ‘up north’ is different from any trout stream or lake you’ve set foot on. Up here the fish are big and angry and we don’t wear tweed.

Tropical fly fishing requires a few different skills, different setups and very different flys.
Life revolves around the moon and tides up here, it’s the number one factor on your chances of success each day you fish.
You can fly fish all year round in the Top End, but the best time is from 1st of March until 1st of December.
RunOff blind casting for big Barr a and King Threadfin is best 1st March until 1st May.
Shallow water sight casting is best 1st May until 1st December.
Freshwater fishing for Saratoga and Barramundi is best 1st of May until 1st of December.
Bluewaterfishingforpelagic is best from 1st May until 1st of December.

Fishing operates from a variety of Destinations and accomodation providers in the local area.
Depending on your fishing goals Watty will create a personalised fishing plan for you to suit your desires, abilities and of course the tides.

If you just want to sight cast at cruising Barra all trip, no worries. If you want to chase big pelagics all week, we can do that too. If you'd like to slide a few gurglers over the lilly pads in search of Saratoga, great idea! If you want to do a bit of everything, even better!

Guests are provided with a high quality catch and release fishing adventure in a spectacular and pristine wilderness environment. The main fish species include barramundi, mangrove jacks, threadfin salmon, saratoga, golden snapper, queenfish, giant trevally, spanish mackerel plus about 40 other species of tropical estuary and reef fish.

All inclusive packages range from 3 to 7 day fishing safaris that provide a great opportunity for fun fishing adventure with the top ends only specialist fly fishing guide.

Itinerary

Depending on the length of you trip you can visit up to 4 different areas for fishing including Darwin Harbour, Corroboree Billabong, Dundee Beach and Bynoe Harbour.
Fishing days generally begin as the sun comes up at about 0630 and breakfast can be taken at lodgings or on the boat.
You will be finished fishing and off the water each day around 1600, unless you nominate to finish earlier.
A more detailed itinerary will be confirmed with you through the booking process to construct the trip that best suits your needs and goals.
